Ett muterat virus gör smittade invånare i Taipei till bindgalna, blodtörstiga varelser som mördar helt utan hämningar och misskund. Allt byggs upp mot ett blodigt crescendo då inga mörka scenarier lämnats orealiserade i en film som fått även de mest härdade splatterfans att rygga tillbaka. Närvaron blir total på grund av extremt väl genomförda praktiska effekter vilka frammanar bilder av artärfontäner och lemlästningar som inte kommer lämna tittarnas minne i första taget.
