NY BOX MED DIGITALT RENOVERADE MÄSTERVERK AV AKIRA KUROSAWA<br/><br/>Efter succén med vår första Kurosawa-box, som fokuserade på mästerregissörens samurajepos, kommer snart box nr två. Även denna packad med idel mästerverk i digitalt renoverat skick.<br/><br/>RAN (1985). I 1500-talets Japan är Hidetora Ichimonji en av de mäktigaste klanledarna. En position han nått genom plundringar och mord. Nu är han gammal och lämnar över makten till sina söner Taro, Jiro och Sabura. Därmed hoppas han få slut på våldet. Men istället blir det precis tvärtom... Kurosawas sista riktigt storslagna film, byggd på Shakespeares "Kung Lear", som 1985 var den överlägset dyraste filmen i Japans historia. Vinnare av en Oscar (Bästa kostymer) och nominerad till ytterligare tre (regi, foto, scenografi).<br/><br/>KAGEMUSHA - SPÖKGENERALEN (1980). Under 1570-talet kämpar de japanska klanerna om herraväldet. Länsherren Shingen Takeda anställer en tjuv som sin dubbelgångare att användas för att vilseleda fienden. När Shingen dör får tjuven ta hans plats för att fienden fortfarande ska tro att han är i livet. Vasallerna har förordnat att han ska vara i tjänst under tre år framåt, men dubbelgångaren har helt andra planer... Producerad av de stora Kurosawa-fansen Francis Ford Coppola och George Lucas. Belönad med Guldpalmen i Cannes och nominerad till två Oscar (Bästa utländska film och Bästa scenografi).<br/><br/>DODES'KA-DEN (1970). Kurosawas kanske mest udda film, vilken utspelas i Tokyos slumkvarter och bland annat följer en ung man med intellektuell funktionsnedsättning som älskar spårvagnar och ständigt härmar deras ljud (som, enligt honom, låter "Dodes'ka-den"). Oscarnominerad för Bästa utländska film.<br/><br/>RÖDSKÄGG (1965). Under 1820-talet kommer en ung medicinare med dåligt humör till en landsortsstad för att börja sin praktik. Under stigande ilska inser han att han inte alls ska syssla med finare privatpraktik, utan istället är placerad på ett allmänt sjukhus för att ta hand om fattiga patienter. Kurosawas sista film med Toshiro Mifune. Efter ständiga gräl beslöt de att gå skilda vägar.<br/><br/>HIMMEL OCH HELVETE (1963). Toshiro Mifune i stark filmatisering av Ed McBain-deckaren "Hotet" från 1959. Den förmögne affärsmanen Kingo Gondo får veta att hans son har blivit kidnappad och gör sig redo att betala lösensumman. Men snart visar det sig att kidnapparna tagit fel barn. De har råkat ta chaufförens son. Kommer Gondo ändå att betala lösensumman?<br/><br/>IKIRU - ATT LEVA (1952). En åldrande byråkrat försöker finna en mening med livet efter att han fått reda på att han drabbats av obotlig cancer. En av Kurosawas mest älskade filmer. Belönad med Juryns specialpris i Berlin.

In 'Barking Dogs Never Bite' (2000) unemployed academic Ko Yun-ju (Sung-jae Lee) becomes agitated by his neighbour's dog and decides to take drastic action to silence it. Meanwhile, Park Hyun-nam (Doona Bae) begins investigating when a number of canines are reported missing by residents of her apartment complex. In 'Memories of Murder' (2003), set in 1986 in a small town in Gyeonggi Province, Detective Park Doo-man (Kang-ho Song) and his partner, Detective Cho Yong-koo (Roe-ha Kim), investigate the brutal rape and murder of two women discovered in a ditch. They are aided in their investigation by Seoul detective Seo Tae-yoon (Sang-Kyung Kim), whose methods clash with Park's. When another body is discovered it becomes apparent the detectives are searching for an elusive serial killer, and they find themselves investigating the deaths of ten women over the course of six years. 'The Host' (2006) follows snack bar owner Gang-du Park (Song) and his family as they are forced to fight back against a mysterious monster which emerges from the Han River in Seoul. Fearing the worst after his daughter Hyun-seo (Ko Asung) is captured and carried away by the unidentified creature, Gang-du is left shocked when he receives a phone call from her explaining she is being held captive by the monster deep in the sewers. Spurred on by Hyun-seo's unexpected call, Gang-du gathers together the remaining members of his family and bravely sets off into the sewers in a bid to rescue her. In 'Mother' (2009), in a remote village in South Korea, a lonely single mother looks after her mentally handicapped son Do-jun (Weon Bin) while scraping a living as an acupuncturist. But her simple, poverty-stricken life is suddenly plunged into chaos when her son is arrested for the brutal murder of a local schoolgirl. Convinced that he has been set up, the mother sets out to prove her son's innocence to the police, who seem more interested in closing the case than in researching other possible leads. In 'Snowpiercer' (2013), following a failed attempt to halt global warming that sparked a new ice age in 2014, the last humans on Earth circumnavigate the globe aboard the Snowpiercer train. 17 years on, with the train rigidly divided by class, the poor inhabitants of the train's tail section, led by Curtis (Chris Evans), decide to rebel and demand better treatment and living conditions. After freeing security expert Namgoong (Song) and his daughter Yona (Asung), the band of rebels make their way to the front of the train in search of its creator, Wilford (Ed Harris). Finally, in 'Parasite' (2019) Kim Ki-taek (Song) sees a way out of his struggling family's poverty when he is employed by the wealthy Park family to tutor their daughter Da-hye (Ji-so Jung). He quickly ingratiates himself with the Park family and convinces them to employ the rest of his impoverished family disguised as his acquaintances. However, their scheme to infiltrate the Park family's lavish life soon turns awry when their true identities come under scrutiny. In 'Police Story' (1985) police officer Chan Ka-Kui (Chan) is assigned to protect informant Selina (Brigitte Lin), who is due to testify against crime lord Chu Tao (Chor Yuen). When she refuses this assistance Chan stages a mock assassination attempt in order to ensure her compliance. However, after discovering Chan's ruse, Selina does not attend the trial and Chu Tao is released on bail. With Chu Tao back on the streets Selina is in more danger than ever before. Can Chan protect her and finally bring Chu Tao to justice? In 'Police Story 2' (1988) Chan has been demoted to traffic duties following his heavy-handed manner. However, when Chu Tao is released from prison early and is intent on causing chaos around Hong Kong, Chan is brought back into the force to try and stop his old nemesis. Finally, in 'Police Story 3 - Supercop' (1992) Chan and Inspector Yang Chien-Hua (Michelle Yeoh) are tasked with travelling to mainland China to infiltrate the organisation of a dangerous drug lord. In 'Female Prisoner #701 - Scorpion' (1972) Matsu (Kaji), better known as Scorpion, lands in prison thanks to the evil manipulations of an ex-boyfriend. After suffering at the hands of the jailers and other prisoners, she must find a way to escape in order to get her revenge. In 'Female Prisoner #701 - Scorpion: Jailhouse 41' (1972) Matsu exacts a grim revenge on the male wardens at the prison. No male appendage is secure as she stalks the wings in a razor-frenzy. After enduring further brutal punishment, Matsu forms a new plan to escape, this time with the help of six fellow inmates. 'Female Prisoner #701 - Scorpion: Beast Stable' (1973) follows an escaped Matsu as she attempts to outrun her pursuers. After taking refuge in the home of a prostitute, things become difficult when she finds trouble with a local gang. Finally, in 'Female Prisoner Scorpion #701's Grudge Song' (1973) Matsu attempts to get revenge on a corrupt detective. 'Pather Panchali' (1955) tells the story of a family living in the grip of poverty in a small Bengali village, focusing on the experiences of young boy Apu (Subir Bandopadhyay). 'Aparajito' (1956) sees Apu (Smaran Ghosal) move with his family to the busy city of Benares where they hope to build a new life after suffering a devastating family tragedy. But when Apu's father dies, the young man decides to head out on his own and attend college in Calcutta, leading to a growing estrangement between him and his widowed mother. Finally, in 'The World of Apu' (1959), the adult Apu (Soumitra Chatterjee) hopes to become a writer, but his lack of finances forces him to abandon his university studies. He meets old friend Pulu (Swapan Mukherjee) and together they travel to the wedding of Pulu's cousin, Aparna (Sharmila Tagore). When the wedding is cancelled, Apu agrees to marry Aparna to save her from ridicule.
