"Wasting light" spelades in enligt den gamla skolan i Dave Grohls garage hemma i San Fernando Valley, Kalifornien. Det är Foo Fighters sjunde album, och Grohl har återigen arbetat med den legendariske producenten Butch Vig som även var med och gjorde Nirvanas "Nevermind". Dessutom har gitarristen Pat Smear blivit en permanent medlem i bandet. Övriga medlemmar är Taylor Hawkins (trummor), Nate Mendel (bas) och Chris Shiflett (gitarr).
