Pachyman

While conceptualizing Switched-On, Pachyman gravitated to Lovers Rock-era reggae and the iconic Studio One. Yet the album also pays homage to the era where musicians began manipulating synthesizers for gloriously off-kilter bleeps and bloops. His evolution emerges on You Looked at Me, fusing a Krautrock-esque beat with synths reminiscent of Boards of Canada. Pachy's sound further expands on Trago Coqueto, a cheeky love song crooned through a cocktail’s prism and an ode to his Puerto Rican roots.

In the spirit of the classic jamaican recordings of the late 70s and early 80s, Pachyman brings us his sophomore record with ventures in dub and roots reggae. Inspired by Roots Radics band, this time Pachyman extends his exploration of the early Studio One sound, Sly & Robbie’s steppers style and a bit of soul jazz reggae. Mixed using the techniques of Scientist and King Tubby, Pachyman pays tribute to the sonic pallet of the dub masters themselves. Recorded in between the months of April and October 2019 at his own 333 House studio.

Envisioned in the style of early dancehall records, Pachy García took upon the task of recreating the sonic endeavors of Scientist, King Tubby, Lee "Scratch" Perry and the great engineers and players of instruments of early Jamaican reggae music. Inspired by Channel One Studios and Roots Radics band, the tone was set in a dancehall fashion with some detours into Rub-a-Dub and Rockers style playing. Recorded at Pachy’s own 333 House from January to March 2019. Written, produced, performed and mixed by Pachy himself.

Over four albums, Pachyman has proven himself a dedicated craftsman working in the lineage of dub reggae while mastering the methodology of masters like King Tubby and Scientist, using vintage gear, constructing glorious walls of sound, and developing an intuitive understanding of the power of repetition. With Another Place, he synthesizes the myriad scenes that have recontextualized dub, from the synth-pop of William Onyeabor and Yellow Magic Orchestra to Basic Channel’s amniotic dub techno.
