Never Give Up is Partner's second full-length album, following 2017's In Search of Lost Time. None of their influences - not Weezer, Ween, Dinosaur Jr, or any of the lesbian superfecta (k.d. lang, Melissa Etheridge, Tegan, Sara) - marry Partner's craft for singles and their willingness to laugh at themselves - at least not with the same smiling candour. If In Search of Lost Time proves anything, it's that it's always more freeing, and probably more fun, to be the butt of the joke. Many of the world's great rock 'n' roll musicians have purported to shamelessness; but were any of the straight, white, male millionaires as balls-out as Partner?

Partner is funny, but not a joke. Gay, but not for each other. Best friends Josée Caron and Lucy Niles confidently harness the infinite power of Rock to explore a variety of niche yet strangely universal themes. Debut album In Search Of Lost Time was named one of the best albums of 2017 by NPR's All Songs Considered, Stereogum, Noisey, Exclaim, CBC Music, Indie 88 and was shortlisted for the Polaris Music Prize, while the single "Play the Field" won the SOCAN Songwriting Prize in 2018. Saturday the 14th represents the first steps towards a bold new future as the band question the rules and question themselves, while offering a few tantalizing hints for what lies in store next.
