Jazz music stimulates the mind and elevates the soul of those who play and hear them and they can immerse themselves fully, said the deceased on June 21, 2014 jazz legend Horace Silver. This quote describes his attitude to music perfectly. His constant search for new ways and the urge to evolve, influenced his work over many years. Raised in Norwalk, Connecticut, he joined the Cape Verdean folk-music of his father and the gospel sounds that he taught his mother, and with the elements of bebop and rhythm n blues created so many of the most important compositions of the hard bop. This 10-CD box set contains many of the greatest albums of the early creative years, his band and as a swinging pianist in the bands of Clark Terry, Art Farmer, Milt Jackson, Paul Chambers and Miles Davis.
