Set during World War II, the feature is comprised of two separate tales. The first, entitled 'Scherzo Alla Pollacca', follows Dzidzius (Edward Dziewonski), a Warsaw man who is drawn into the war in spite of his fervent desire to protect himself from danger at all costs. 'Ostinato Lugubre' takes place in a Prisoner of War camp, where the escape bid of Lt. Zawistowski (Tadeusz Lomnicki) becomes a subject of legend among the patriotic Polish POWs.
