Classic crime drama directed by Arthur Penn and starring Marlon Brando, Jane Fonda and Robert Redford. A young convict by the name of Charlie 'Bubber' Reeves (Redford) escapes from the state penitentiary and heads for his hometown in the American Deep South. The peace of the town is soon shattered as the local people, led by a successful oil tycoon, form a mob to see that Reeves is brought to justice.<br/><br/>Only the town sheriff, Calder (Brando), believes him to be innocent and puts his reputation and his life on the line to defend his ward.

Det är under depressionsåren och de två huvudpersonerna Clyde Barrow (Warren Beatty) och Bonnie Parker (Faye Dunaway) ger sig in på brottets bana på jakt efter äventyr och spänning. Vid premiären häpnade åskådarna över filmens våldsscener som saknade motstycke i filmhistorien. Våldet trappas upp för huvudpersonerna som spelar ett högt spel med sina egna liv som insats. I övriga roller ser vi bland annat Michael J. Pollard, Gene Hackman och Estelle Parsons som fick en Oscar® för Bästa kvinnliga biroll 1967.<br/><br/>Regissören Arthur Penn har lyckats skapa en hård och tuff stämning som dock aldrig övergår i ren grymhet. Trots att filmen har 40 år på nacken är den fortfarande en bländande uppvisning i stor filmkonst, i synnerhet när det gäller filmfotografen Burnett Guffeys (vinnare av filmens andra Oscar®) och regissören Dede Allens insatser.
