Där har ni de fyra filmer som oftast brukar nämnas som de främsta Stephen King-filmatiseringarna i skräckgenren.<br/><br/>Manuset skrevs av Stephen King (vilket han sällan brukar göra), för regin svarade självaste David Cronenberg och rollistan upptogs av namn som Christopher Walken, Martin Sheen och Brooke Adams.<br/><br/>Walken spelar Johnny Smith, en lärare som råkar ut för en bilolycka och hamnar i koma. Mot alla odds vaknar han upp efter fem år och upptäcker att han fått en ny förmåga. Bara genom att vidröra en människa kan han förutse dennes fortsatta liv och därigenom förändra framtiden.<br/>En dag blir han kontaktad av en senator (Martin Sheen) som vill att han hjälper honom med dennes valkampanj. Men när han trycker senatorns hand ser han en vision av honom som en framtida Hitler som planerar att utlösa ett tredje världskrig.<br/><br/>Johnny har nu två valmöjligheter: Att låtsas som om han inte vet någonting, eller att mörda senatorn för att förhindra ett förödande kärnvapenkrig...

The film, which draws from both the stage play, 'Taking the Cure', by Christopher Hampton and the 1993 book, 'A Most Dangerous Method', by John Kerr, also portrays Jung's sexual affair with one of his female patients. Set in early 20th century Europe, the film traces the intense personal and professional relationship between Freud (Viggo Mortensen) and his protégé, Carl Jung (Michael Fassbender). When married family man Jung takes in beautiful young Russian patient Sabina Spielrin (Keira Knightley) for treatment at his clinic in Switzerland, she quickly becomes his muse and the two soon embark on a passionate sadomasochistic affair. Som pionjär för subgenren "body horror" blev unge David Cronenberg både älskad och hatad för bisarra filmer som Rabid, Scanners och Flugan. När han vuxit till sig axlade han om och hamnade i finrummet med A History of Violence och förärades det prestigefyllda jobbet som Cannesjuryns ordförande 1999. Nikolai's carefully maintained existence is threatened when he meets Anna Khitrova (Naomi Watts), a midwife at a North London hospital who has been deeply affected by the plight of a teenager (Sarah-Jeanne Labrosse) who died giving birth. The girl left behind a diary written in Russian in which Anna seeks the answers to the baby's lineage. By delving into the diary, Anna has accidentally unleashed the full fury of the Vory. With Semyon and Kirill closing ranks and Anna pressing her inquiries - Nikolai finds his loyalties divided.
