I Wicked, historien om häxorna i Oz, följer vi den missförstådda Elphaba och den populära Glinda. De möts som studenter i det fantastiska landet Oz och utvecklar en oväntad men djup vänskap. Efter ett möte med den berömda trollkarlen i Oz når deras vänskap ett vägskäl och deras liv tar mycket olika riktningar. Glindas starka längtan efter popularitet gör att hon förförs av makt, medan Elphabas beslutsamhet att förbli sann mot sig själv, och till dem omkring henne, leder till chockerande konsekvenser för hennes framtid.
