Matt Reeves regisserar denna andra uppföljare i "Apornas planet"-serien med Woody Harrelson och Andy Serkis i huvudrollerna. Efter händelserna i "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" (2014) finner apan Caesar (Serkis) sig själv och sina gelikar fångade i ett krig med människorna som leds av överste McCullogh (Harrelson). Även om Caesar är övertygad om att apor inte är vildar, kanaliserar Caesar sin mörka sida när ett stort antal förlorar sina liv i händerna på människorna, och lovar att hämnas för varje apa som går förlorad.
