In 1964, Cassius Clay defeats Sonny Liston (Michael Bentt) to become the World Heavyweight Champion. Soon afterwards he becomes close to Malcolm X (Mario Van Peebles) and Elijah Muhammad (Albert Hall), the leader of the Nation of Islam, and changes his name to Muhammad Ali. When he refuses to be drafted during the Vietnam War, he is banned from boxing and undertakes a legal battle to appeal his conviction, which entails a five year prison sentence. After he succeeds, he returns to the ring and fights to regain his title, culminating in the 1974 Rumble in the Jungle against George Foreman (Charles Shufford).
