Gloria (Anne Hathaway) är en arbetslös tjej som, efter att ha blivit utsparkad sin lägenhet av sin pojkvän, tvingas lämna sitt liv i New York och flytta tillbaka till sin hemstad. När nyhetsrapporterna berättar om en jättevarelse som förstör Seoul, Sydkorea, inser Gloria gradvis att hon på något sätt är kopplad till detta avlägsna fenomen.
