När Takashi Miike släppte loss AUDITION i slutet av förra seklet var publiken totalt oförberedd. Från filmfestivalen i Rotterdam rapporterades om ett lämmeltåg av chockade åskådare som lämnade bion innan filmen var slut (och då missade de ändå det värsta!). Med ens hade en helt ny genre fötts, döpt av en sur kritiker till "torture porn", som ynglade av sig i extremskräck som Saw, Hostel och Miikes egen Ichi the Killer. På tidningarnas Bästa skräckfilms-listor ligger AUDITION ofta högt och bland fansen finns regissörer som Quentin Tarantino, Eli Roth och Rob Zombie.<br/><br/>AUDITION är historien om änklingen Shigeharu. För att hjälpa honom att hitta en ny hustru anordnar hans omoraliske vän, filmproducenten Yasuhisa, en fejkad audition. Bland alla vackra kvinnor faller Shigeharu för den mystiska och tystlåtna Asami, en före detta ballerina med oklart förflutet. Hennes sätt att underkasta sig Shigeharu gör honom förtjust. After coming across Rin Asano (Hana Sugisaki), a young girl whose parents were brutally murdered by a gang of master swordsmen, Manji vows to hunt down those responsible and help Rin get her revenge.
