Maria and the Captain ultimately fall in love but when Austria is annexed by Nazi Germany, they must attempt to flee to Switzerland with the children to escape the coming war. This year however, the convictions of both mother and child are challenged when a kindly old man (Gwenn) is hired as the store Santa and insists that he is in fact the real thing. No one believes him, some even think he's insane, but he is willing to go to court to prove his case. The sequel 'Return of the Fly' (1959) follows the attempts of André's son Philippe (Brett Halsey) to successfully complete his father's work. Unfortunately, he hires Alan Hinds (David Frankham) to work with him, not realising that Hinds is engaging in corporate espionage and is willing to use the transporter to deal with his enemies.
