Takashi Shimura plays the drunken angel of the title, a doctor working in a devastatingly poor area of immediately-post-war Tokyo. The area is overrun with competing gangsters who have lost most of their power during the American occupation. Toshiro Mifune - in the first leading role that made him a star - plays a handsome young hoodlum who one night comes to the doctor's surgery with a small bullet wound in his hand. The doctor treats the wound but also diagnoses Mifune as having tuberculosis. The gangster's arrogance prevents him from acknowledging his illness, but his position within his organisation increasingly comes under threat.<br/><br/><i>Typ: DVD</i>

As she considers other suitors she faces betrayal and exile from society and is forced to make a desperate decision about her future. 'Culloden' (1964) depicts the 1746 Battle of Culloden in which the British Army defeated the outnumbered Scottish Jacobite forces and shows events before and after the Jacobite rising was defeated. The film presents the historical event as if it was being featured on a modern TV report, by portraying the action as a documentary and interviewing the actors involved in the battle. However, Ranuccio's partner Lena (Tilda Swinton) also becomes romantically linked to Caravaggio and soon jealously and passion result in a tragic ending for all involved.
