Takashi Shimura plays the drunken angel of the title, a doctor working in a devastatingly poor area of immediately-post-war Tokyo. The area is overrun with competing gangsters who have lost most of their power during the American occupation. Toshiro Mifune - in the first leading role that made him a star - plays a handsome young hoodlum who one night comes to the doctor's surgery with a small bullet wound in his hand. The doctor treats the wound but also diagnoses Mifune as having tuberculosis. The gangster's arrogance prevents him from acknowledging his illness, but his position within his organisation increasingly comes under threat.<br/><br/><i>Typ: DVD</i>

In this tale of revenge, Koichi Nishi (Toshiro Mifune) obtains a position as private scretary to Iwabuchi (Masayuki Mori), the government official he suspects killed his father. Outspoken priest Urbain Grandier (Oliver Reed) finds himself accused of seducing a group of hysterical nuns while in demon form by Mother Superior Sister Jeanne (Vanessa Redgrave), who is obsessed with Grandier and driven into a fit of envy when he marries another woman. With the involvement of charismatic exorcist Father Barre (Michael Gothard), the affair turns into a sordid mass exorcism of the tainted convent. With much controversy surrounding its subject matter of religion combined with violence and sex, many cuts were made to the film in order for it to attain certification.<br/><br/><i>Typ: DVD</i>

While there she begins to befriend the locals and, in particular, gamekeeper Rob (Andrew Bradford) who she later falls pregnant to. When she attempts to go back home to deal with her predicament Norah becomes increasingly concerned over the villagers' behaviour towards her and their apparent unwillingness to let her leave.<br/><br/><i>Typ: DVD</i>

Arrogant bandit Tajômaru (Mifune) is brought to trial, charged with the murder of samurai Takehiro Kanazawa (Masayuki Mori) and the rape of his wife Masako (Machiko Kyô). As the crime is recounted by four witnesses - Tajômaru, Masako, Takehiro through use of a medium (Noriko Honma) and a woodcutter (Takashi Shimura) - all of whom have their own version of the event, the intertwining realities dilute the concept of an objective, singular truth and call into question the tenuous relationship between fact and memory.<br/><br/><i>Typ: DVD</i>
