Meanwhile, Rokurota Makabe (Mifune), a renowed Akizuki general, is attempting to escort Princess Yuki (Misa Uehara) to safety. When he encounters the two peasants, he realises they may be useful to him but as the four of them travel together, they face many challenges and Tahei and Matashichi's cowardice and greed could jeopardise Makabe's mission. Takashi Shimura plays the drunken angel of the title, a doctor working in a devastatingly poor area of immediately-post-war Tokyo. The area is overrun with competing gangsters who have lost most of their power during the American occupation. Toshiro Mifune - in the first leading role that made him a star - plays a handsome young hoodlum who one night comes to the doctor's surgery with a small bullet wound in his hand. The doctor treats the wound but also diagnoses Mifune as having tuberculosis. The gangster's arrogance prevents him from acknowledging his illness, but his position within his organisation increasingly comes under threat.<br/><br/><i>Typ: DVD</i>

In this tale of revenge, Koichi Nishi (Toshiro Mifune) obtains a position as private scretary to Iwabuchi (Masayuki Mori), the government official he suspects killed his father. Nishi then marries Iwabuchi's daughter and plans a fitting retribution.<br/><br/><i>Typ: DVD</i>

Wealthy business executive Kingo Gondo (Mifune) faces a terrible choice when a kidnapper snatches the son of his chauffeur Aoki (Yutaka Sada) instead of his own son. If he pays the ransom he will be ruined financially but if he does not, he will be unable to face his family or Aoki. Meanwhile, police led by Inspector Tokura (Tatsuya Nakadai) investigate the crime. The cast also includes Kyôko Kagawa, Isao Kimura and Tsutomu Yamazaki.<br/><br/><i>Typ: Blu-ray</i>

Noriko, however, sees no reason to disrupt the harmony of the family home and repeatedly insists that marriage is not for her. At the memorial service of their friend, Miwa (Chishu Ryu), three of his old friends devise a plot to find a husband for his unmarried daughter, Ayako (Yoko Tsukasa). To their consternation, Ayako refuses to fall in with their plan, expressing a preference to remain with her mother, Akiko (Setsuko Hara). The three men all harbour a lifetime crush on Akiko but agree that one of them should marry Ayako, which causes conflict among both family and friends. Eventually, with the help of Ayako's friend, Yukiko (Mariko Okada), Akiko and Ayako are reconciled, and Ayako concedes to marry according to the wishes of her elders.<br/><br/><i>Typ: DVD / with Blu-ray - Double Play</i>
