But Orlok is also the vampire Nosferatu and when he takes a shine to Hutter's young wife Ellen (Greta Schroder), it seems that the worst is indeed possible.

Seeking to improve his circumstances, he asks a forest spirit for help and is granted two wishes but when these fail to have the desired results, he pursues a darker path which comes at the cost of his heart and his happiness. When a series of murders are committed in Tokyo, a distinguishing mark connects them all: a bloody 'X' carved into the neck of each victim. In each case the murderer is found near the scene of the crime with no memory of committing it. The perpetrators are revealed to be ordinary citizens who all interacted with the same mysterious man shortly before inexplicably killing someone.
