Set in 1759, the film follows the adventures of a young artist (Robert Young) and his roughneck friend (Walter Brennan) who, after a drunken escape from the angry father of the former's fiancee, join up at Crown Point to take off with Rogers (Spencer Tracy) and his band of veteran Indian fighters.
