In 'Rope' (1948), flatmates Brandon (John Dall) and Philip (Farley Granger) murder their friend David Kentley (Dick Hogan) purely to see if they can get away with it. They then throw a cocktail party, serving food from the top of the trunk where they have hidden David's body. Their guests include both David's father and fiancée, as well as college lecturer Rupert Cadell (James Stewart), who becomes increasingly suspicious as the evening goes on. In 'The Man Who Knew Too Much' (1956) Dr. Ben McKenna (Stewart) is on holiday in Morocco with his wife, former singer Jo (Doris Day), and son Hank (Christopher Olsen) when he meets the friendly but mysterious Frenchman Louis Bernard (Daniel Gelin). The McKennas are also befriended by the Draytons, an English couple who take them to the local bazaar. There, Ben is confronted by an Arab man who, after being shot in the back, whispers a dying message to him. It transpires that the Arab is in fact a disguised Bernard, and that he has entrusted Hank with the identity of a British politician who is due to be assassinated. After being questioned by the police, Ben and Jo return to their hotel, only to discover that the Draytons have checked out and taken Hank with them in order to ensure Ben's silence. In 'Torn Curtain' (1966), famous nuclear physicist Michael Armstrong (Paul Newman) defects to East Germany with the intention of acquiring a secret formula from enemy scientist Gustav Lindt (Ludwig Donath). However, Armstong's mission is jeopardised when he is followed by his assistant and fiancée Sarah Sherman (Julie Andrews). In 'Topaz' (1969), CIA agent Michael Nordstrom (John Forsythe) learns from a Soviet defector that Russia has become embroiled in the Cuban missile crisis via a NATO spy codenamed Topaz. Enlisting the help of French agent Andre Devereaux (Frederick Stafford), Nordstrom attempts to discover the link, but his actions have disastrous international consequences. Finally, in 'Frenzy' (1972), Barry Foster stars as market trader Robert Rusk, a psychopathic killer who strangles women with ties. In 'The Fast and the Furious' (2001) undercover cop Brian O'Conner (Paul Walker) is assigned to the Los Angeles illegal street racing scene to search for the criminals behind a string of hijackings. His prime suspect is Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel), whose passion for Japanese fast cars is matched only by his enthusiasm for stealing hi-tech equipment. In '2 Fast 2 Furious' (2003) O'Conner finds himself on the trail of another group of underground car enthusiasts. This time the location is Miami, where O'Conner has been making money out of street racing and is tasked with bringing down the drugs baron Carter Verone (Cole Hauser) in exchange for wiping clean his criminal record. In 'The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift' (2006) street racing loner Sean Boswell (Lucas Black) avoids jail time by absconding to Tokyo to live with his uncle in a cramped apartment. In the land that gave birth to the majority of modified racers on the road, the simple street race has been replaced by drift racing, an even more deadly combination of brutal speed on heart-stopping courses. Boswell inevitably gets drawn into the racing and the complexities of the underworld which surround it. In 'Fast & Furious' (2009) fugitive ex-con Dominic Toretto reignites his feud with agent O'Conner on the streets of Los Angeles, but as the two men find themselves facing a common enemy in the form of a heroin importer, their attempts to infiltrate his operation result in an unlikely alliance. In 'Fast & Furious 5' (2011) Toretto and his sister Mia (Jordana Brewster) are forced to enlist O'Conner's help once again as they find themselves cornered by a ruthless drugs gang in Rio de Janeiro. But the Rio gangsters are not the only ones on Toretto's tail; wily federal agent Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) has also been assigned to track down the pair, and will stop at nothing to corner his prey. In 'Fast & Furious 6' (2013) Toretto and the rest of his compatriots are forced to kill time lying low in different locations around the world following their lucrative Rio heist. When agent Hobbs offers Toretto and his crew full pardons in return for taking down Owen Shaw (Luke Evans)'s gang of mercenary drivers, the offer seems too good to pass. But as the rivals head for a showdown on the streets of London, Toretto learns that Shaw's second in command is none other than his presumed dead former lover, Letty (Michelle Rodriguez). In 'Fast & Furious 7' (2015) the group are now being targeted by Shaw's ex-special forces brother Deckard (Jason Statham). Left with no choice but to defend themselves, it isn't long before Toretto, Hobbs, O'Conner and the rest of the gang become embroiled in a feud between international terrorists and the US government. In 'Fast & Furious 8' (2017) the team are left shocked when their leader Toretto betrays them after being seduced into a world of crime by international cyberterrorist Cipher (Charlize Theron). Teaming up with DSS agent Hobbs and former nemesis Deckard Shaw, Pearce (Tyrese Gibson), Tej (Ludacris) and the rest of the gang must set out on a dangerous mission to take down their new enemy and bring Toretto home. In 'Fast & Furious 9' (2021) Toretto's quiet retirement is abruptly ended when his old team arrives with news that Dom's estranged brother Jakob (John Cena) has captured cyberterrorist Cipher and is hunting down a weapon capable of hacking into any computer system in the world. Finally, in 'Fast X' (2023), Dom's past is quickly catching up with him, as extraordinary escapes from high-stakes chases and shutting down the criminal empires of his enemies begin to attract even more of the wrong kind of attention. Dante (Jason Momoa) was to be the heir of such an empire, had his father not died at the hands of Dom and all his wealth gone with him. The vengeful and psychotic Dante will stop at nothing to force Dom to face up to him, attempting to destroy all Dom holds dear along the way. In 'Frankenstein' (1931) scientist Henry Frankenstein (Colin Clive) is consumed with the desire to create life. However, the monster possesses the brain of a killer and proceeds to escape and terrorise the local community. 'The Mummy' (1932) follows the members of an archaeological expedition who discover a sarcophagus in an unmarked grave. It contains the mummy of Imhotep (Karloff), who was buried alive thousands of years ago as punishment for attempting to bring his deceased lover back to life. Now resurrected, Imhotep begins searching for his reincarnated beloved. In 'The Invisible Man' (1933) Dr. Jack Griffin (Claude Rains) discovers the secret of invisibility but in the process drives himself insane. Soon he is no longer satisfied with playing pranks on other people and his actions take a murderous turn. In 'The Bride of Frankenstein' (1935) Henry Frankenstein (Clive) believes his creation has been destroyed until his former mentor Dr. Septimus Pretorius (Ernest Thesiger) blackmails him into creating a mate (Elsa Lanchester) for the monster. 'The Wolf Man' (1941) sees Larry Talbot (Lon Chaney Jr.) return home to Wales where he falls in love with local girl Gwen Conliffe (Evelyn Ankers). When Gwen's friend Jenny (Fay Helm) is attacked by a wolf, Larry attempts to save her. He kills the wolf but is bitten in the process and transforms into a werewolf the following night. When he attempts to flee to protect those he loves, tragedy awaits. In 'The Phantom of the Opera' (1943) Paris Opera House violinist Erique Claudin (Rains) loves singer Christine DuBois (Susanna Foster) and pays for her lessons without her knowledge. After he is burned by acid, he steals a mask and hides in the sewers beneath the Opera House where he devotes himself to furthering Christine's career. Finally, in 'Creature from the Black Lagoon' (1954), members of an expedition in the Amazon discover a 'Gill-man' who is half man and half amphibian.
