Inspirerade av dåtidens powerrock-trios såsom "The Jimi Hendrix Experience" och "Cream" bestämde sig superstjärnorna inom den moderna jazzmusiken John McLaughlin, Jaco Pastorious & Tony Williams för att jamma tillsammans under namnet "Trio Of Doom" och ge en konsert på Karl Marx Theatre på Kuba 1979. <br/><br/>Då man inte var riktigt nöjd med inspelningen från konserten träffades man igen några dagar senare för att i studio spela in låtarna från spelningen. Detta var den sista gången dessa excellenta musiker spelade tillsammans. John McLaughlin som är den enda som lever idag låter oss äntligen ta del av allt material denna supertrio spelade in. 3 av spåren har tidigare funnits ute på samlingsskivor, i övrigt är allt tidigare outgivet. Charles Mingus var ett av de stora genierna inom jazzen. Hans storhet kan jämföras med Duke Ellington, men Mingus var mer vågad med sina abrubta och tvära kast i kompositionerna. Hans huvudintrument var bas, men han var även en stålande pianist. En mängd strålande album spelades in från mitten av 50-talet till mitten av 70-talet, men skall man välja ut en enda skiva som hans bästa blir det "Mingus ah um" från 1959. Ett formidabelt storverk som går in på jazzens topp 10. En oumbärlig skiva även för den lilla jazz-samlingen, alltså.

This set expands on the 1964 live album MILES IN EUROPE which documented the Miles Davis Quintet's performance at the Festival Mondial du Jazz in Antibes in July 1963. The audio has been lovingly mixed and mastered in the highest quality possible.
