50th anniversary half-speed mastered LP.<br/>This new pressing of PIN UPS was cut on a customised late Neumann VMS80 lathe with fully recapped electronics from 192kHz restored masters of the original master tapes, with no additional processing on transfer. John Webber cut the half-speed at AIR Studios.<br/> <br/>Recorded at Château d'Hérouville in France, where Bowie would later return to record the masterpiece LOW, PIN UPS was a collection of cover songs paying tribute to bands and artists that had inspired him and that he had seen at clubs such as The Marquee in London in the mid to late 60s. Artists he covered for the album included The Yardbirds, The Kinks, Pink Floyd, The Who, Pretty Things, The Easybeats and more.

OCTOBER 14th 2025, exactly 40 years to the day since it was first released, Parlophone Records are pleased to announce a brand new, beautifully packaged, limited collectors 2LP colour vinyl edition of IRON MAIDEN's classic album LIVE AFTER DEATH.<br/> <br/>Featuring the original revered gatefold sleeve artwork, the album comes with two 140g colour vinyls (one in blue, the other in yellow) featuring the 2015 audio remastering. The package also includes a replica 24 page World Slavery Tour programme, bringing back to life the original tour programme for new generations. <br/> <br/>Additionally the vinyl features a replica tour pass and a glossy 12 page booklet, which contains the original eight page booklet alongside an exclusive and brand new essay entitled Rime And Punishment: Celebrating 40 Years Of Live After Death, where Iron Maiden fan club editor Alexander Milas interviews Steve Harris, Nicko McBrain, Rod Smallwood and acclaimed illustrator Derek Riggs about the legendary album.<br/> <br/>Widely acclaimed as not just the greatest heavy metal live album of all time, but one of the most iconic live releases in any musical genre, LIVE AFTER DEATH was recorded mostly during the four nights that Maiden played at Los Angeles' Long Beach Arena in March 1985. The final side of the double album was recorded during the four nights the band played at Hammersmith Odeon in October 1984. <br/> <br/>Both sets of concerts were part of the ground-breaking World Slavery Tour, in support of the band's 1984 album Powerslave, which started in Poland and featured 187 concerts across 331 days. The tour firmly established Iron Maiden as one of the most exciting live bands on the planet, a reputation that they carry to this day.

On the exact day of its Golden Jubilee, STATION TO STATION will be issued as a limited edition 50th anniversary half-speed mastered picture disc LP with a reproduction of a poster used to advertise the album 50 years ago.<br/><br/>The album saw Bowie relocate to Cherokee Studio in Los Angeles and incorporate elements of his 'Plastic Soul' period, coupled with much more experimental elements, which would become more prevalent over his next couple of albums. The first single from the album GOLDEN YEARS, released in November 1975, would give Bowie a top ten single on both sides of the Atlantic. The second single, TVC 15, would, a decade later, be heard and seen by almost 2 billion people when Bowie chose it to open his set at Live Aid.<br/><br/>The sound of STATION TO STATION was partly influenced by Bowie's burgeoning interest in the electronic music and driving rhythms of bands coming out of Germany, such as NEU! and Kraftwerk, most notably on the ten-minute title track, while still embracing dancefloor-friendly grooves in songs such as STAY and GOLDEN YEARS.<br/><br/>Harry Maslin, who had worked with Bowie on some of the tracks on his previous album, YOUNG AMERICANS, was chosen as Bowie's co-producer. They entered the studio in September 1975 with a tight stripped-down band featuring Carlos Alomar & Earl Slick on guitars, George Murray on bass, Dennis Davis on drums, David's Childhood friend Geoffe MacCormack (under the nom de plume Warren Peace) on backing vocals and on loan from Bruce Springsteen's E-Street Band, Roy Bittan on piano and organ. Maslin has since said that the vocals on the standout track WILD IS THE WIND and GOLDEN YEARS were both Bowie's first takes.<br/><br/>Ten days after the album's release, David started the ISOLAR TOUR, which visited over 65 dates in 11 countries and is cited as being hugely influential for its use of banks of fluorescent white light set against black backdrops. At the end of the tour, Bowie started work on Iggy Pop's debut solo album, The Idiot, when the pair and producer Tony Visconti moved to Berlin to mix the record. 50 år sedan första svenska USA-ettan.<br/> <br/>Det svenska musikundret har ett födelsedatum.<br/>Det var nämligen den 6 april 1974 som Björn Skifs & Blåblus under namnet Blue Swede nådde förstaplatsen på USA-listan med sin Bengt Palmers-producerade version av "Hooked on a Feeling". Det var också då som ABBA vann Eurovision Song Contest i Brighton med "Waterloo".<br/><br/>Att "Hooked on a Feeling" var en välskriven låt var inte resultatet av en lyckträff. Den skrevs av den välrenommerade amerikanske låtskrivaren Mark James, som även ligger bakom Elvis-klassiker som "Suspicious minds" och "Moody Blue". Palmers var redan bekant med B.J. Thomas version av låten när han 1971 besökte London. Där fick han höra Jonathan Kings cover, där denne lagt till det berömda "gorilla"-introt. Versionen nådde dock bara plats 23 i Storbritannien.<br/>Låten blev snart en del av Björn Skifs & Blåblus liverepertoar.<br/><br/>"Björn ringde och berättade att livepubliken 'gick bananas' när de hörde den", minns Palmers.<br/>Det beslutades att den skulle spelas in och ges ut som singel.<br/>"Mitt jobb som producent var lätt, eftersom de redan spelat den live och kunde den utan och innan", konstaterar Palmers.<br/>"Vi tyckte dock att Jonathan King hade slarvat bort 'gorilla-kören' lite och såg till att göra introt tydligare och mer kraftfullt", minns Skifs.<br/><br/>Låten nådde förstaplatsen på Tio-i-topp och toppade snart även den officiella svenska hitlistan.<br/>I det här skedet hade en skandinavisk utgivning varit logisk. Det var på den tiden så långt man sträckte sig i sina ambitioner för en svensk akt.<br/><br/>Palmers tänkte större än så. Låten hade överhuvudtaget inte getts ut i USA om inte han hade varit både visionär och envis. Han skickade "Hooked on a Feeling" till det amerikanska moderbolaget Capitol. När de nobbade, skickade han den till alla andra skivbolag i USA - och på den tiden var de många. "Folk i EMI-korridorerna här hemma tyckte nog att jag hade fått hybris, men jag trodde verkligen på låten".<br/><br/>När Palmers berättade för Capitol att CBS hade nappat och ville ge ut den i USA, vaknade Capitol till liv och ville själva ge ut den. Sakta men säkert började den klättra på Billboard-listan och 6 april blev Blue Swede den första svenska akten att få en USA-etta. "Det var som att vinna OS utan att ha tränat", skrattar Skifs. Uppföljaren "Never my love" nådde dessutom sjunde plats i Staterna.<br/><br/>På grund av åtaganden i Sverige - folkparksturné med Blåblus och Skifs huvudroll i musikalen "Godspell" - dröjde det en mindre evighet (fem månader) innan Blue Swede lyckades ta sig till USA för att göra PR. "Hade detta hänt i dag hade artisten i fråga brutit sina kontrakt, släppt allt och tagit första plan till Staterna", konstaterar Palmers. "Många tyckte ju att jag bara skulle dra, men det kändes fel. Jag avbröt dock mitt åtagande i "Godspell" i förtid", konstaterar Skifs.<br/><br/>Under de 50 år som passerat har "Hooked on a Feeling" närmast fått ett eget liv.<br/>Den har bland annat kunnat höras i Quentin Tarantinos "Reservoir Dogs", TV-serien Ally McBeal och hade en nyckelroll i Guardians of the Galaxy (både filmen och trailern). 40 år efter att låten varit USA-etta som singel, blev den åter etta i det stora landet i väst, nu som inledningsspår till soundtracket "Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Mix Vol. 1".<br/>Lägg till detta reklam och andra sammanhang och det är lätt att förstå att låten upptäcks av nya generationer.<br/><br/>Det svenska musikundret har med tiden blivit mer av ett låtskrivarfenomen. Men effekten av "Hooked on a Feeling" består. Palmers hade en vision, var envis och lyckades under första halvan av 70-talet - innan ABBA:s internationella genomslag - bevisa sin tes: "Det går att få en svensk inspelning utgiven i USA som klättrar hela vägen till förstaplatsen på listorna!"
