Han tillbringar sina dagar med att spela bowling och dricka White Russian. Men en dag bryter sig två män in i hans bostad och påstår att han är skyldig deras uppdragsgivare pengar. Det visar sig att det finns två Jeffrey Lebowski och att den andre är en rik affärsman. The Dude söker upp denne och berättar om missförståndet.<br/><br/>Några dagar senare ringer affärsmannen Lebowski till The Dude och förklarar att hans unga fru blivit kidnappad och att han vill ha hjälp med att lämna över lösensumman. The Dudes bäste vän och medhjälpare Walter får då en lysande idé ? varför inte behålla pengarna själva. Bunny har säkert ändå arrangerat sin egen kidnappning för att komma åt sin mans förmögenhet. Men det visar sig när allt kommer omkring att Walters idé kanske inte var så lysande.

Leslie Nielsen återvänder i rollen som sin karaktär från POLICE SQUAD! - den stenansiktade, korkade polisen Frank Drebin - när han snubblar över en plan att mörda drottning Elizabeth. Priscilla Presley medverkar i en hysteriskt rolig roll som Franks kärleksintresse i en storfilm som bara kunde komma från hjärnorna bakom Zucker/Abrahams/Zucker (AIRPLANE!).
