'Scary Movie 2' (2001) follows what happens when the students from the first film are hired to investigate a series of strange occurrences in an old mansion named Hell House. Finally, in 'Scary Movie 3' (2003), now out of college, Cindy has become a TV news reporter out to find a hard-hitting news story. Ephraim Winslow (Pattinson) arrives on a remote island off the coast of New England during the 1890s to work alongside veteran lighthouse keeper Tom Wake (Dafoe). However, the pair have a volatile relationship and the solitary nature of the job results in both men becoming suspicious and paranoid of the other. Ephraim, in particular, struggles to maintain his sanity and a threatening storm does little to suppress his anxieties.

The aliens live in a place called District 9 in South Africa in squalid conditions and are now under the supervision of Multi-National United (MNU), a company who are solely interested in exploiting the aliens' superior technology to make money. However, the only way of getting the extraterrestrial technology to work is by using alien DNA, so when MNU worker Wikus van der Merwe (Sharlto Copley) becomes infected with a DNA altering disease, giving him alien DNA, he becomes a very desirable commodity. Realising he is alone and in serious danger, and as relations between the aliens and humans intensify, van der Merwe must enter District 9 to escape.
