When Professor Vollmer (Adrian Hoven), the technical director of a major simulation program called Simulacron, dies in mysterious circumstances his colleague and successor Fred Stiller (Klaus Löwitsch) seeks some explanation. After speaking with security advisor Günther Lause (Ivan Desny) Stiller is informed Vollmer was on the brink of a major discovery before his death. When Lause disappears and none of his employees acknowledge that he ever existed Stiller becomes deeply sceptical about the nature of reality.
