The eighth full-length album Ghost Reveries by Swedish heavy metal band Opeth is the epitome of what metal should be: a work of art. The album is filled with heavy, intricate, and precisely performed guitar riffs. You can't avoid the monstrous riffs in a song like "The Grand Conjuration". As the band's main composer, Mikael Åkerfeldt successfully managed to transfer his dark emotions into all those twisted solos, surrounded then by wall of even thicker riffs. He's blending classical clean harmonies with guttural growls. Opeth's technical capacity mark them out from both their followers and their peers and accordingly Ghost Reveries is definitely one of the greatest metal albums ever recorded. This album is a culmination of everything Opeth have worked toward throughout their career. It's fully realized, stunningly beautiful, and emotionally fragmented.<br/><br/>The highly successful Swedish metal band Opeth rose to fame in the early zero's, after releasing a couple of fan highlights. Denna americanatrubadur blev ett stort namn i och med hans turné på våra breddgrader 2017. Hans tidigare skivor är olika, och den nya är precis detta också. Den Tom Petty-influerade americana på debuten har under resan blivit något annat, men det hänger ihop likväl. Karma for cheap är mer en södra Californien-platta med mer rock, mer Beatles (kanske framförallt George Harrison), mer David Bowie, fler instrument - och sagolikt bra. Och ingen, absolut ingen sjunger som Aaron Lee Tasjan.

The iconic fifth album Houdini by the Melvins captures the band's unreconstructed power, vision, and musical strangeness. It's an essential '90s release, combining elements of grunge with hard rock and sludge metal. Kurt Cobain (Nirvana) was accepted by Melvins as a producer to the album. Buzz Osbourne's guitar sound is deep and heavy and in combination with the Dale Crover powerful drum rolls and fills it sounds really impressive. Kurt Cobain added his guitar skills to the track "Sky Pup" and can be heard as a percussionist on "Spread Eagle Beagle". It's one of the most accessible Melvins albums and the gateway to discover more records by the band.
