Denna gång spelar "Clintan" en mystisk främling som träder fram ur öknens dallrande hetta och rider in i den skuldtyngda staden Lago. Redan under de första 20 minuterna sker tre mord och en våldtäkt rum och stadens representanter ger honom i uppgift att skydda invånarna i staden mot slöddret. I Cry Macho, baserad på boken med samma namn, spelar Clint Eastwood en före detta rodeostjärna och utbränd hästuppfödare som tackar ja till ett jobb åt sin före detta chef. Jobbet går ut på att hämta hem mannens son från hans alkoholiserade mor. Det omaka paret får en oväntat utmanande resa på vägen genom Mexiko tillbaka till Texas.
