In 'Seven Samurai' (1954), knowing that bandits are planning to attack their village after the coming harvest, its inhabitants hire a group of seven samurai to protect them. Led by Kambei (Takashi Shimura), the group includes four hardened warriors, Kambei's new disciple and Kikuchiyo (Toshirô Mifune), the orphaned son of a farmer who is posing as a samurai and is determined to prove his worth. The samurai begin arming and training the villagers as well as fortifying their homes as they prepare for the coming attack, fully aware that the odds are stacked against them. In 'Throne of Blood' (1957), after securing a great victory in battle for their lord Tsuzuki (Takamaru Sasaki), samurai commanders and friends Taketoki Washizu (Mifune) and Yoshiaki Miki (Minoru Chiaki) meet a mysterious spirit in the Spider's Web Forest who prophesies their rise to power. When the first part of the spirit's prediction comes true, Washizu tells his wife Asaji (Isuzu Yamada) about the rest of the prophecy and her ambition leads him to commit murder, an act which seals both of their fates. 'The Hidden Fortress' (1958) follows the exploits of Tahei (Chiaki) and Matashichi (Kamatari Fujiwara), two peasants hoping to make their fortunes by becoming soldiers. They run into trouble when they are mistaken for members of the Akizuki clan which has just been defeated after a fierce battle. Meanwhile, Rokurota Makabe (Mifune), a renowed Akizuki general, is attempting to escort Princess Yuki (Misa Uehara) to safety. When he encounters the two peasants, he realises they may be useful to him but as the four of them travel together, they face many challenges and Tahei and Matashichi's cowardice and greed could jeopardise Makabe's mission. In 'Yojimbo' (1961) wandering samurai Sanjuro Kuwabatake (Mifune) arrives in a rural town in 19th century Japan which is overrun with criminals and is being fought over by two rival gangs. Determined to free the townsfolk from the oppressive grip of the gangsters, Sanjuro sparks open war between the two sides in the hope that they will destroy each other. However, his plans are complicated by the arrival of Unosuke (Tatsuya Nakadai), the younger brother of one of the gang leaders who prefers guns to swords and upsets the balance of power in the town. Finally, in the sequel 'Sanjuro' (1962), Sanjuro Tsubaki encounters a clan of samurai who have been betrayed by the local superintendent. They had intended to present a formal accusation of corruption within their clan but would have been crushed by the superintendent's men had Sanjuro not defended them. Sanjuro soon finds himself embroiled in a plot to kidnap the local chamberlain and facilitate a power grab by the superintendent, but jaded as he is, Sanjuro feels he must also object to the behaviour of his fellow samurai.

Typ: Blu-ray / Box Set

In 'Stocker's Copper' (1972) clay workers Manuel Stocker (Bryan Marshall) and Herbert Griffith (Gareth Thomas) are striking for better conditions in Cornwall but the heavy-handed presence of certain policemen threatens to make events turn violent. In 'The Elephants' Graveyard' (1976) unemployed man Bunny (Jon Morrison) pretends to his wife that he is a postman when in reality he spends his days walking the hills. One day he befriends another man, Jody (Billy Connolly), who is in a very similar position. Together the pair bond over their shared desire to avoid employment at all costs. 'Gotcha/Campion's Interview' (1977) features two stories that revolve around two different schools trying to deal with inequality within the education system. In 'The Spongers' (1978) single mother Pauline (Christine Hargreaves) is given two weeks to cover her rent arrears or face eviction. However, due to recent welfare payment cuts she struggles to find the money and worries about how she and her disabled daughter will survive. Meanwhile, preparations for the Queen's Silver Jubilee get underway. In 'Victims of Apartheid' (1978) George O'Brien (John Kani) has newly arrived in London from apartheid-era South Africa, however, his past experiences continue to haunt him and he struggles to move on with his life. Finally, in 'Just a Boys' Game' (1979), set in Glasgow, Jake McQuillen (Frankie Miller) aspires to become known as a hardman just like his revered grandfather (Hector Nicol), who is close to death. However, throughout the course of one day Jake begins to question whether this veneration is really something worth pursuing.

Typ: Blu-ray / Box Set

In 'Edna, the Inebriate Woman' (1971) Edna (Patricia Hayes) has neither a home, a job nor any money. She wanders from one hostel to the next, sometimes living under a bridge, sometimes undergoing treatment in a psychiatric ward, always adamant that she is not a vagrant. 'Just Another Saturday' (1975) is set in Glasgow during the Orange Walk parade. John McNeil (John Morrison) is a young man gradually coming to terms with the violent and unpleasant truth behind the marching and symbolic pageantry. 'Bar Mitzvah Boy' (1976) follows the fears and trepidations of a young Jewish boy as he approaches his Bar Mitzvah. Eliot Green (Jeremy Steyn) is reluctant to depart from the comforts of childhood, while to other members of the family the event is of great importance. Eliot's mother, Rita (Maria Charles), views the ceremony as an opportunity to celebrate her family; Grandfather Wax (Cyril Shaps) enjoys the traditional nature of the event; but his father, Victor (Bernard Spear), struggles to look beyond the mounting bill. In 'The Mayor's Charity' (1977) Olive Major (Thora Hird) is determined that her year as Mayor will be happy and successful, but she causes a stir when she appoints Ex-Warrant Officer Higham (Frank Windsor) as her mace bearer. In 'Coming Out' (1979) romantic novelist Lewis (Anton Rodgers) is a gay man afraid to come out and alienate his mostly female fans. When he writes an article on gay issues under a pseudonym, its success leads him to come out. Finally, 'A Hole in Babylon' (1979) sees an attempted armed robbery go disastrously wrong.

Typ: Blu-ray / Box Set

OBS! Import. Kontrollera att språk och textning passar dig.

Collection of eight films produced by the Woodfall Films company, founded in 1958 by director Tony Richardson. In 'Look Back in Anger' (1959) Richard Burton plays angry young man Jimmy Porter in this screen adaptation of John Osborne's ground-breaking stage play. Jimmy, university-educated, articulate and poor, is angry with almost everything and everyone; from the government and the church to his long-suffering wife, Helena (Claire Bloom). In 'The Entertainer' (1960) a tatty, ageing seaside performer is a failure as a family man and as an entertainer. Laurence Olivier plays the excruciating Archie Rice, with an ego that destroys the lives of those closest to him. In 'Saturday Night and Sunday Morning' (1960), Arthur Seaton (Albert Finney) is a young man filled with a rage perhaps even he doesn't fully understand. Working in the tough environment of a Nottingham factory, he compensates for the drudgery and discipline of his weekday life with weekends spent drinking and womanising. His affair with a fellow factory worker's wife, Brenda (Rachel Roberts), seems especially ill-advised - particularly when Brenda informs him that she is pregnant with his child. With abortion illegal at the time, Arthur and Brenda face a difficult dilemma. Will Arthur face up to the kind of domestic responsibilities he openly scorns or run harder than ever? In 'A Taste of Honey' (1961), when pregnant Manchester teenager Jo (Rita Tushingham) is abandoned by her sailor boyfriend and her man-hungry mother (Dora Bryan) she realises she might have to face life's difficulties all alone. Help then comes in the form of a kind-hearted man named Geoffrey (Murray Melvin) who moves in and takes care of her. The two find happiness together, but soon life moves on... In 'The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner' (1962) Colin Smith (Tom Courtenay), a cynical working class youth, finds himself in a boys' reformatory for robbing a bakery. The governor in charge of the reform school (Michael Redgrave) preaches to his inmates that exercise and physical challenge can permanently destroy a boy's rebellious streak. But Colin is fortunate enough to be on the boss's good side due to his natural running prowess and is offered the chance to train for a race against the local public school. Tensions build as the big day approaches and after a lot of time spent thinking on his lonely runs, Colin might just reconsider his naturally rebellious instincts. In 'Tom Jones' (1963) a country boy who has a taste for wine, women and money enjoys many bawdy exploits. Whilst trying to create his own wealth, Tom Jones (Finney) sets his sights on a girl named Sophie (Susannah York) but her family have other plans for her. In 'The Girl With Green Eyes' (1964) an innocent Catholic girl (Tushingham) moves to Dublin where she falls for an older, more sophisticated man (Peter Finch). The relationship infuriates the girl's father, who tries in vain to end it. Finally, in 'The Knack... and How to Get It' (1965) Michael Crawford stars as Colin, an awkward and naive teacher who shares a flat with smooth-talking womaniser Tolen (Ray Brooks). Keen to capitalise on the sexual revolution occurring around him, Colin asks Tolen for some advice about how to seduce women. His first port of call is to get himself a new, bigger bed; and while he and his other flatmate, Tom (Donal Donnelly) are procuring one, they meet Nancy (Tushingham), an innocent country girl who agrees to come along with them. Things are looking up for Colin... until he gets Nancy back to the flat, where she meets the irresistible Tolen and falls under his spell. Can Colin get 'the knack' in time to beat Tolen at his own game?

Typ: Blu-ray
