The post-Cold War era is characterised by shifting patterns of war and peace. The new demands and challenges facing external actors, such as international peacekeeping forces and mediators, are therefore manifold. In <i>War and Peace in Transition</i> the authors address some of the critical and transformative issues in war and peacemaking, such as the roles of private military and security companies and the use of force in peace support operations. The authors discuss how states, organisations and individuals contribute to conflict resolution. According to virtually all international corruption rankings, Sweden is one of the top performing countries with very few exposed incidents of corruption. But does this automatically imply that it can be declared a perfectly healthy patient? By extensively reviewing existing research and adding empirical sets of data, the authors of <em>A Clean House?</em> shed light on shady corners of the Swedish case.<br/><br/> What do we know about corruption in Sweden, and what can be said of such affairs over time? Four scholars of political science and economics describe how countries typically viewed as low-corruption states can have particular problems that should not be underestimated nor neglected. This is the first comprehensive study in English of corruption in a low-corruption, mature welfare state.<br/><br/> By revealing causes, scope and consequences of the corruption in low-corruption countries, the authors point out shortcomings in the international evaluations of corruption, and suggest constructive reforms that might curb the types of corruption occurring in "healthy" societies.

I dessa och ytterligare typfall analyseras användbarheten av ett affektivt perspektiv vid förståelsen av relationen mellan människor och tingen omkring dem. Etnografin i boken tar läsaren med till olika delar av Skandinavien, till ett oroligt Balkan och en resa genom södra USA. I tre av bidragen diskuteras också hur affektstudier kan komma till praktisk användning i tillämpade innovationsstudier. Boken inleds med en utförlig diskussion där de affektiva perspektiven sätts in i en etnologisk och antropologisk kontext. Särskilt utrymme ägnas här de metodologiska och teoretiska utmaningar som detta öppnar för.<br/><br/> Den här boken är visserligen ett pionjärarbete i sitt slag inom de nämnda disciplinerna, men vänder sig också till forskare och studenter inom sociologi, kultur- och turiststudier, och naturligtvis till en bredare läsekrets med intresse för studiet av känslor, musik, materiell kultur, innovationer och postsocialism.

Very rarely has peace and conflict studies been combined with public administration research. Divided Cities Governing Diversity brings together theories from conflict resolution, public administration, and urban studies to present new theoretical and empirical insights from nine in-depth case studies. The authors employ the city as a prism to shed light on the com¬plex, multidimensional processes of conflict, segregation, democratization, and governance. They use the city as a diagnostic site for exploring the role of public administration and civil servants in resolving contested issues in divided societies. The researchers analyse nine multifaceted cases: Toronto, Copenhagen, Malmö, Mostar, Cape Town, Belfast, Jerusalem, Nicosia and Mitrovica all cities at different stages of conflict and stability and with disparate legacies.
