Heath Ledger stars in this medieval action adventure written and directed by Brian Helgeland. Young squire William Thatcher (Ledger) longs to improve his lot in life and when his master dies, he impersonates him to win a jousting tournament. Only nobles are permitted to compete but William is determined to find a way. During his quest he encounters Geoffrey Chaucer (Paul Bettany), falls in love with the noble Jocelyn (Shannyn Sossamon), finds a rival in jousting and in love in Count Adhemar of Anjou (Rufus Sewell) and meets Prince Edward (James Purefoy), the heir to the throne. However, when his true standing is discovered, can anyone save him from arrest and humiliation?
