In 'Violent Cop' (1989) Kitano stars as a renegade police officer known as Azuma who has a tendency for violence. Despite being known as rather eccentric in his approaches Azuma is generally regarded with respect by his fellow officers and superiors. However, when a local yakuza gang kidnap his sister, Azuma's violence knows no bounds as he sets about ensuring her safe return. In 'Boiling Point' (1990) Masaki (Masahiko Ono), an inept baseball player, has a run-in with the local yakuza when they threaten his coach. Determined to exact revenge Masaki sets about purchasing some guns. When he inadvertently meets with former gangster Uehara (Kitano), Masaki finds an ally who has his own reasons for wanting revenge. Together the unlikely duo take on the full might of the local criminal underworld. Finally, in 'Sonatine' (1993) Kitano stars as Murakawa, an influential gangster based in Tokyo. When he is sent to Okinawa to settle a local dispute Murakawa suspects that he has been set up. However, he decides to make the most of his time away and along with his men they enjoy their time at the beach as they wait for the inevitable arrival of their enemies.<br/><br/><i>Typ: Blu-ray</i>

The film follows the young Napoleon (Albert Dieudonné/Vladimir Roudenko) as he attends the elite military school Brienne College, joins the French Army, witnesses the French Revolution in 1792 and takes part in the First Italian Campaign, during which time he becomes increasingly influential in French politics and meets his future wife Joséphine (Gina Manès).<br/><br/><i>Typ: Blu-ray</i>

It tells the story of two families, the pro-Union Stonemans from the North and the pro-Confederacy Camerons from the South, and the way in which they are both caught up in the turmoil which befalls a sleepy Deep South town when Northern Abolitionists threaten to outlaw the slave trade which has existed there for years. Things go from bad to worse when Ben Cameron (Henry B. Made for the arts programme 'Monitor', 'Elgar' (1962) dramatises the life of English composer Sir Edward Elgar (George McGrath) and tells the story of his music in a series of visualisations. 'The Debussy Film' (1965), which was also made for the 'Monitor' programme, chronicles the life of French composer Claude Debussy (Oliver Reed). Meanwhile, a director (Vladek Sheybal) struggles to make his own film about Debussy's life. Made for the 'Omnibus' arts series, 'Song of Summer' (1968) depicts the last five years of Frederick Delius (Max Adrian)'s life as the devoted, young composer Eric Fenby (Christopher Gable) aids him in completing his final, unfinished scores.<br/><br/><i>Typ: Blu-ray / with DVD - Double Play</i>

In 'Manila in the Claws of Light' (1975) young Júlio Madiaga (Bembol Roco) leaves his rural home and travels to the urban sprawl of Manila. He picks up a job as a construction worker, but is not accustomed to such hard labour and so he struggles at first. Júlio begins to make friends and spend time in the markets. On one such outing, he meets someone who could point him in the direction of the woman Júlio loves, a girl named Ligaya Paraiso (Hilda Koronel) who also came to Manila in the hopes of a good education. But just as Júlio and Ligaya begin to reconnect, the criminal underbelly of the city makes itself known to them. In 'Insiang' (1976) the titular character (Koronel) is a young woman living with her bitter mother Tonya (Mona Lisa) in a slum. Tonya's husband left her some time ago but his family remained with her, until now. Tonya casts them out to make way for her new boyfriend, a terrible bully named Dado (Ruel Vernal) who is far younger than her. Insiang is forced to flee her home but finds no solace in her friend Bebot (Rez Cortez).<br/><br/><i>Typ: Blu-ray / with DVD - Double Play</i>

'Rome, Open City' (1945) takes place during the last days of the Nazi occupation of Italy during World War II. Resistance leader Giorgio Manfredi (Marcello Pagliero) flees the Gestapo and seeks a place to hide with the help of his friend Francesco (Francesco Grandjacquet), his pregnant fiancée Pina (Anna Magnani) and the priest who is due to marry them, Don Pietro Pellegrini (Aldo Fabrizi). Giorgio's ex-girlfriend Marina (Maria Michi) betrays him and his fellow fighters to the Gestapo in order to get her hands on some luxury items and it's not long before the Nazis and the local police find him and Don Pietro. They are captured and tortured but will they crack under the pain or be executed for their silence? 'Paisà' (1946) is Rossellini's account of the liberation of Italy during World War II, told in six chapters. In each chapter a different view of the liberation is given as it spreads across the country. Different characters are also followed in each segment including American chaplains, soldiers, monks and prostitutes. Finally, 'Germany Year Zero' (1948) is Roberto Rossellini's moving account of life in post-war Germany telling the story of a 13-year old black marketeer who poisons his ailing father out of pity and necessity.<br/><br/><i>Typ: Blu-ray / Box Set</i>
